Luxury Italian intimates brand La Perla unlock their 67-year-old archive through a new limited-edition capsule collection of lingerie, ready-to-wear and accessories. An evocative celebration of the female form and the decade that championed womanhood, the new capsule launches worldwide and draws inspiration from hero pieces from the 1980’s.

La Perla boasts a rich history spanning six decades, with the brand continuously at the forefront of couture lingerie design and craftsmanship. After delving into their Bologna based archive – which houses pieces that date back to the 1950s when founder Ada Masotti first launched her atelier – the brand honed in on the 1980s, to pay homage to a time that was a key turning point for women, lingerie and La Perla.

To mark the launch La Perla has asked London based model and actress Iris Law and photographer Indigo Lewin to shoot the new capsule collection, taking inspiration from the brand’s vintage 80’s campaigns. The duo will join forces to re-interpret the collection in their own way through a contemporary female lens, with Indigo behind the camera and Iris as her muse modeling the new collection.

The limited-edition capsule collection consists of 13 pieces of lingerie, ready-to-wear and accessories, unlocking 80s archive icons reimagined for the modern woman. From body-sculpting intimates to seductive, sheer lace ready-to-wear and accessories – the collection is a sensual and subtle play of all-black styles that equally conceal and reveal.

Hero pieces range from a V-neck bodysuit in Lycra and Italian Jacquard lace to a form-fitting Italian Jacquard lace corset that can be worn as ready-to-wear or as lingerie, with a matching Brazilian brief. The most provocative piece, a full sheer jumpsuit in Italian Jacquard lace and Italian silk satin stretch is contrasted against two elegant dress styles; a classic black slip dress in Italian stretch silk and silk satin with Italian Jacquard lace details, as well as a one shoulder dress in Italian stretch silk and silk satin. Accessories include an 80s inspired headband in Lycra and Italian Jacquard lace, created from fabric off cuts.

With the new collection, La Perla harnesses an era that saw a major rise in underwear trends – a decade of self-expression and experimentation, where the lines between innerwear and outerwear blurred and women embraced the primacy of lingerie and the part it had to play in their own empowerment. Fashion icons from Madonna to Cher, who each wore La Perla for their respective music videos and single covers, were at the forefront of this monumental shift in what it meant to be a woman. The capsule epitomises a time that exalted the beauty and empowered femininity of a confident, refined and captivating woman.

The pieces that inspired the new collection are as relevant today as they were all those years ago, when first created by Ada Masotti. A revolutionary woman of her time, Ada pushed the boundaries of the industry status quo, to reinvent the way the world wore and saw lingerie. Ada was driven by a profound understanding of the female form and passion to empower women through her designs. As women and their desires evolved over the decades, Ada’s lingerie designs evolved with them. By the eighties, a poignant time for Ada, she had grown a small atelier in Bologna into a global empire.

Prices range from HKD1,065 for a face mask to HKD15,420 for a dress style. Pieces will be available exclusively online at www.laperla.com, in-store at key locations and with selected wholesale partners.
