The Met Gala, one of the most anticipated A-lister party of the year, kicked off on May 7 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. This year’s was slated as “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, which has spark controversy.

Taking on the duties as co-host of the gala are barrister Amal Clooney, singer Rihanna, and designer Donatella Versace along with editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.

The exhibition was set to show case the influence of religion and liturgical vestments in fashion, borrowing 150 garments from the archives of the likes of Balenciaga, Versace, Chanel and Dior – most of which have a history of a close relationship with religion.
